Restore an Ornamental Lawn in No Time!

The criteria for achieving the ideal image of a quality ornamental lawn are: dense growth, fine leaf texture, an intense green colour, and, of course, a neatly mowed pattern. However, the reality found in many gardens is often quite different. Due to the unpredictable and changing climate, it is becoming increasingly challenging for gardeners to meet this ideal standard. Nevertheless, with proper care and the right machines, beautiful results can still be achieved.
Especially in spring, it’s beneficial to thoroughly clean the lawn at the start of the mowing season. This removes moss, thatch, and weeds from the lawn, allowing the grass to receive the light and air it needs to grow vigorously. The newest generation of ELIET E-ZR dethatching machines are a real game-changer. As a European market leader, ELIET has developed a range of self-propelled dethatching machines capable of removing the maximum amount of lawn-contamination in a single pass with minimal damage to the lawn.
These E-ZR dethatching machines achieve high-quality results thanks to a combination of unique ELIET features. They are equipped with ultra-thin DoubleCut™ blades (1.5 mm) made from high-quality spring steel. These flexible blades have a Permanent Pointed™ tip, allowing them to efficiently grasp moss and thatch. Notably, the blades rotate against the direction of travel, lifting and ejecting debris from the turf with force. The blades are positioned close together, ensuring every 15 mm of the lawn is combed.
This new generation of dethatchers is also equipped with a full-width rear roller drive. This means the lawn is simultaneously rolled while dethatching. The moss and thatch are projected over the roller and land on the smooth surface of the lawn, making it much easier to collect and remove, as it no longer gets caught in the turf. As a bonus, the rolling effect immediately creates a beautiful striping pattern in the lawn.
The quality isn’t just visual—thanks to the refined dethatching process, the grass isn’t stressed. As a result, it requires minimal energy to recover and can quickly regrow. This is crucial in spring to outpace weed growth and maintain dominant turf coverage.
The latest E-ZR machines also elevate user comfort for lawn care professionals. The self-propelled drive, height-adjustable and actively vibration-damped handlebar make a world of difference.
If the grass coverage has suffered too much under the suffocating pressure of moss, overseeding will help restore lawn density after dethatching. During overseeding, 25 to 30 g/m² of new grass seed is introduced into the existing lawn. ELIET DZC overseeders are industry-leading. Unlike any other machine, they precisely place the seed into the lawn soil. The secret lies in the patented seed distribution system developed by ELIET.
The overseeder cuts grooves approximately 8 mm deep into the lawn soil. The compact seed distribution system successfully injects the grass seed directly into these grooves under the arc of soil being ejected. The grooves are immediately rolled closed by the machine, enclosing the seed in the soil. The freshly ejected soil then neatly covers the seedbed, providing the perfect environment for germination and ensuring reliable emergence.
The result is stunning. The seed lines are spaced just 25 mm apart, creating what is essentially a brand-new lawn of young, vital grass growing within the existing lawn. Within about two weeks, the lawn’s grass density more than doubles. The turf’s density is thus fully restored in no time and at minimal cost.
A great advantage of overseeding is the ability to adjust the grass species in the lawn. For example, by sowing a tetraploid seed mixture, you can improve the lawn’s drought resistance and make it more climate-resilient.
Dethatching and overseeding are two targeted spring lawn care practices that can completely restore the appearance and vitality of an ornamental lawn in just a few weeks.
